Good grief Charlie Brown....I read the review above and almost puked! Listen up....if you love great sushi...read this. Takara is NO ABOVE average sushi restaurant. If you like this place for sushi, I have to question your knowledge or taste for quality sushi. There seems to be a few different "i eat sushi" types of people. Those that eat an occasional California roll.. .those that are a bit more adventurist and eat a " kamakazi" roll (something full of mayo. rice, fish eggs, and fake crab), and then those that love nigiri and sashimi. Let me establish..., I've eaten at this place about 40 times since it opened. It started out decent when it very first opened but quickly....the quality and value went down hill fast . The establishment is well decorated but in a very high rent plaza called the Pavilion. . Takara is more concerned with the bedazzelment quality of their product that the taste. They attempt to deliver a WOW factor with visual aesthetics when what you are after is good food. They put all kinds of crazy flashing lights on your plate (so if you don't eat out much, this might be a real artistic treat) But in the end, if you want good SUSHI...real good sushi....you are still left wanting such!, this place sucks! Tonight, I ordered 2 orders of Tuna, yellowtail, and squid sashimi. Usually, an order of sashimi is 3 smaller but thicker pieces and no rice. The first attempt, they bring me out a plate of nigiri. WRONG! Then, I get this coffee saucer of 3 pieces of Tuna and yellowtail and two pieces of squid. They wanted to charge me almost $30.00 for no more than an appetizer. I questioned the waiter because I thought they got the order wrong (again). He assured me it was 2 orders of each piece. How do you get two orders of sashimi into 3 pieces of one type of fish??? I sent it back and politely sat there while the rest of my party dinned. Never did the waiter offer any concern or options or even send the manger over (the waiter was "Dave") When I left, I spoke with the manager. I let him know that I was fairly regular regular and spent a lot of $ there. I also let him know that I would never be back. In fact, I had a 10% VIP card and I handed that back as well. Why was I a regular when this place is so subpar. They do have one sushi item called "triple sushi" that is a good value for the $. Usually, that;s all I ever get when I dine there. However, I am on a restrictive diet and can't have any rice, sugar, mayo, etc.... Sashimi is it. Also, I ordered some sliced cucumbers with rice vinegar. The most expensive place I've eaten at in Orlando only charged me $1.00 extra for that. Most places give it to me as part of the garnishment. This place....$2.95. So, if you like a California roll with your hibachi meal, this might be the place to go. If you want great sushi, try Tarafuka in Daytona Beach or in Orlando try Fuji Sushi or MoonFish (especially during their happy hour). This place is a gimmick! Oh, and to the previous review....this place does not have a full liquor bar. Wine and beer only! They will gladly sell you a shot of sake and some mellon shit mix for $6.95. Buyer, beware here!

I've been here for sushi a few times and although it was good, I was never impressed. I've frequented many sushi establishments in California and Hawaii and pretty much nothing in Florida compares. So maybe it's that I have a higher standard for sushi, but it's hard to find a good sushi joint in the Daytona area in my opinion. Now, onto the good part about this restaurant: Teppanyaki! I've now been to the hibachi side of the restaurant multiple times and the food is always killer. Usually I'll split the "Takara Dinner for Two" with a friend.. with that you get chicken, shrimp, scallops, filet mignon and two lobster tails. It's $54, but when you split it, you can't beat it. You get a ton of fried rice and veggies as well. It's a lot of food, and it's delicious. But that's not even the best part! Lets just say that if you want to get hammered for free, this is the place to go. The last two times I've been here with a group of friends, the cook, who has a squirt bottle full of sake (for cooking), likes to squirt some in your mouth. And it's not just a small amount, either. He started counting to see how much sake you can chug before making him stop. Of course, I was with a bunch of my guy friends, who all then made it a competition to see who can chug the most. Let's just say that our eyes were watering from chugging sake. Before we knew it, we had gone through two bottles of sake. And we didn't pay for it! A friend had to drive me home because I was quite intoxicated and certainly didn't plan on that happening! Fun times! Oh, and they take credit cards but not American Express. I argued that it was un-American, but that didn't help lol

It was very busy the night we came so we went straight to the sushi bar. There were no plates, napkins, or chopsticks set nor provided. We grabbed our own from the server station next to the sushi bar. There were a few sushi dishes that sat at the sushi bar for at least 20 minutes before it was taken. I felt bad for the people that ordered those. It didn't matter to us since we sat at the sushi bar so we got our sushi right when it was ready. Our server was very attentive and nice Here's what we ordered: Negamaki: very good, the plating was very pretty also - scallions wrapped in thinly sliced beef with a teriyaki type sauce Lobster tuna purse: interesting presentation, overall very good - lobster mixture with avocado in a thinly sliced tuna "purse" with mango dressing and a side of cubed mango Hollywood roll: delicious - fried soft shelled crab, mango, topped with tuna tartar and sliced avocado, drizzled with spicy mayo and eel sauce Tuna mango avocado roll: good, but they forgot the mango Octopus sashimi: perfectly cooked, not chewy and it was delicious All in all the food was yummy, server was great, ambiance was busy and everyone seemed scattered, and price was very reasonable. A good sushi joint in Port Orange.

Came here last Monday and we had a great time! The HH special was going on all evening so all alcohol was half-priced, which was awesome! We did the hibachi and the food and portion sizes were awesome! I wasn't a huge fan of the lo mein noodle (I was wishing they would have had options for double fried rice), but the shrimp and chicken were perfectly cooked. Steak was overdone, but I think that's to be expected on the heated grilled when the steak is all chopped up. Overall, I love this place and can't wait to come back.

Great service and presentation. Drink specials mon through Thursday. The restaurant was small but still easily accommodated our party of seven. The staff was super friendly and you could tell they took pride in their food and service. I will definitely come back.

My thoughts sung to the lyrics of "Diamonds" by Rihanna There's no light so I cannot see I just want sushi to be happy When I get served the dragon roll, I'm alive The crab/shrimp/salmon mix looks like a diamond in the sky It tastes like a shooting star I see But it's almost too much food in me When I eat the dragon roll, I'm alive But we still need lights that look like diamonds in the sky...er ceiling. This place would be five stars if I were nocturnal, I'm not a raccoon though, I'm a human so nope. It gets four but it's a solid four because this restaurant sings "chain" but has great food and great creativity (including Naruto roll? Okay, should I do some spiderweb jitsu in the kitchen and catch all of their rolls)? The food took awhile to make. While waiting, I listened while my dramatic family debated and argued only cutting in to announce "Now for the season premiere of E's newest reality show and Kris Jenner's newest production, Following up with the ------- family." They laughed dramatically. So I had the dragon roll with the crab, salmon and shrimp and it was great! So filling but so good! At sushi 99, I could finish 1.5 rolls but here, I had one and that was it. I was done. I never get full, this place beat me when I thought it wouldn't. I had to box some of the sushi and eat it later in the day. Overall, good place, not a fan of the lighting but i gets a solid four.

Located at The Pavilion at Port Orange this has always been one of my go to places for sushi in the area. This restaurant has a great atmosphere it's divided into two sides one being the restaurant and bar and the other hibachi. I've never been to the hibachi side since I come for the sushi. I love the yellow tuna jalapeño roll and I wish I would stick to it and ignore all the other choices but I always want to try something different but nothing in my mind comes close the the yellow tuna jalapeño roll super fresh yellowtail wrapped with a slice of jalapeño yes it's spicy well it really hot but what a combination. The rock shrimp appetizer is also a solid choice to start and is enough for two. We have always had great service here I love coming here for a late lunch on Saturdays it's never crowded after the lunch rush so it's quiet and peaceful. The presentations are always beautiful and it just shows again the level of quality in everything they do. The restaurant is beautiful and clean and the manager always make the rounds to ensure everyone's experience meet their expectations. Yes there are much cheaper options but do you really want cheap sushi?

I literally drive to the Daytona Beach/Port Orange area just to go to this restaurant. It is my all time favorite Hibachi restaurant. The pricing is just right and the food is to die for. The portions are really big that you can definitely take some to go. Will be visiting soon :)

It's always unusually cold in here. Like.. refrigerator cold. For no reason. But the Sushi is the best in this zip code. Prices are what they should be. Come sit in the dark and eat a ton of food.

Ever since we found out about the happy hour menu, my mom and I have been going here almost every week. The happy hour includes some appetizers, some sushi rolls, beer, and wine that are all half the price Monday-Wednesday. They do have some cheap rolls, starting at $3.50 for the veggie rolls. I've never been in the hibachi area but I've heard it's good. The food itself I would say is fresh and great except their side salad and miso soup. I always get seaweed salad since its on the happy hour menu.. Sounds disgusting to some people I know, but it's amaaaazing. The service is pretty good. All the servers seem friendly, especially Anthony, the host/manager, especially Jo Jo, who's currently not there so we miss him.. Lol but anyway... The decor is modern, booth backs are too straight, and the cold air seems to always be on which is why we wish we could do take out during happy hour but it's only for dining in.

Love this Japanese place, very authentic and delicious food, sushi here is amazing, the hibachi was also good and the chef was very entertaining

Nice sushi and other Asian dishes. This is a bit more upscale so you will pay a bit more. Nice bar area to wait and a good selection of saki.

Im surprised at the overall rating for this place on Yelp, the food is great hibachi and sushi, prices are perfectly fine for the amount of food; I always head back out with leftovers. Service is also great, the hibachi masters and sushi chefs are great!

Horrible. Waited an hour and they sat several people infromt of those that had been waiting. Several just got up amd left because of the poor service. Wait staff at the front had no idea of what they were doing. People were all pissed off. Then when got seated, the food was terrible.

These sushi chefs had to have gone to art school. The sushi is very creative and very good. We eat here a lot and will continue to do so.

Very good sushi ! We use to drive to lake Mary for sushi until we found Takara , and it's getting better and better and the location is just wonderful , the only bad thing is that they get very busy on the weekends and some times the service is not that good maybe they bed to staff better for sat and Sunday's nights .

Everything about our lunch was perfect- from the knowledgable waitress (Fang), extensive wine list and flavorful food! We ordered a drink called the Tincho which was fresh and delicious! Our Phoenix, Tricolor and Philadelphia rolls were made to perfection and our Honey Shrimp was just as tasty. I highly recommend this place to an authentic Japanese fan :) they even provided us with a complimentary dessert since it was our first visit!

Our initial experience might have been a bad one if we just took into account our wait as there is a bar literally In the waiting area. Couple locals were enjoying their libations rather loudly. However this was small annoyance once we were seated wait staff was extremely pleasant and knowledgable. We did hibachi and we have frequented several similar establishments and the past and this was the best. Portions generous and excellently prepared. Truly one of the most entertaining and original chefs we have ever encountered. Bit raucous w sake squirters but people generally having a great time

I have come here several times and I always have great food. Sushi and hibachi are both delish! I definitely recommend their eel mango roll.

We ate at Takara on a Friday night, during the dinner rush and there were people lined up outside to get a seat. Upon entering the rather cozy, but attractive reception area, we noted the small, full liquor bar that would be a nice respite after work. As there were only two of us, we were able to grab seats at the sushi bar without waiting. The decor of Takara is very contemporary, with enough of an Asian feel to make it comfortable. There are three seating areas, the Sushi Bar, the Hibachi room and an open area in between with booths, standard height tables and high-tops. They have a nice variety of Sake on the menu, I had the house Sake and it was very good. My lady had a Sapporo, delivered very cold in the bottle. We noted that other diners were given frosted glasses for their beer upon request. OK, on to the sushi! We ordered the Sushi/Sashimi combo for two and we weren't at all disappointed! As it should be with any high-quality sushi restaurant, the presentation was gorgeous! Our "tower of sushi" contained the usual culprits, tuna, yellowtail, whitefish, octopus, freshwater eel, snapper. The fish was as fresh as you can find, portioned expertly and delicious! The tuna, yellowtail and salmon were standouts, buttery and melting on the palate. The octopus was very good, not as rubbery as one would usually find and the nigiri-style eel was a delight. I asked the waiter, who was very attentive but didn't hover, about the availability of Uni, or Sea Urchin. He said that, while they originally offered it at the Sushi Bar, there were too few requests for it, so they stopped bringing it in. My lady and I decided to try a side order of Tamago, the slightly sweet egg omelet. I've never been a huge fan of the stuff, however, she absolutely adores it. She raved about how moist it was and that the texture was better than most. I admit, the flavor was above what I've tried in the past. After that, it was time to catch our movie so we asked for the check. The prices were about what you'd expect to pay for "above average" sushi in the area. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience that we'll be returning for. Next time, we're gonna hit the Hibachi Room and see what all that clanging's about! Happy eating!

I came here 2 times, one in April and recently in July. Both times service was great and food was delicious, especially the tempura salmon meal. The prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food for the money. It has a nice atmosphere and I look forward to eating here again on my next visit in area.

Food is good. Service is pleasant. Timing is very poor! One person got all of their meal while the other waited. All courses came out at once and dishes removed before the diner was done!

  • Torey F.

Was super busy, sushi was fantastic (tricolor roll was incredible), however the service was only so-so, they were busy and the waitress made that obvious. She did offer separate checks right from the beginning though which was a nice surprise for my group of 5. Price was incredibly reasonable for a special roll which was more than filling, only $13.

  • Emily E.

I've been here for sushi and hibachi. The hibachi was just average, but it was still very good! The portions are much smaller than other hibachi places that I've been to. Service is always so-so here. The food is always delicious though.

Went in Sunday...cant order off lunch menu even though is right on the menu with no declaimer about lunch. Also food was tasteless and service was extremely slow. I just dont like spending 52.00 on simple lunch, tea only and no apps.

We love Takara! This is our go-to sushi spot in the Daytona area. We've tried almost all of them and we keep coming back here. We've never been for hibachi so I can't speak on that but I can say the sushi is great! The service has always been wonderful, too. We took my cousins here when they were in town visiting from Connecticut and even they commented on how friendly and attentive the servers were. I usually alternate between a ginger salad and miso soup to start, both pretty good. When it comes to sushi, the reef roll is my go-to roll. I don't think it's on the actual menu (it's usually listed on the specials board up front). It's a must have item, for sure. The Takara special roll is pretty good, too. You definitely won't be disappointed here!

Worst service I've ever had. I came here with a group of friends and my husband and his food was terrible, cold, and rubbery. Our server then brought out the manager/owner and he argued with us and walked away. Never going back again

Terrible. Watered down broth soup, no flavor. Bland sushi. We both got sick from the stirfry.

Takara is fantastic. Great looking place, great location, and the food is delicious. I usually go for the 2 for $55 dinner. Steak, Shrimp, scallops, lobster, rice, soup, noodles veggies, cuddles. It's great. The best thing is the crab rangoon, the sauce they serve with it, is just splendid. I would give it 5 stars, but some of the waiters are "broskis" which is quite annoying. Sorry, but if I go for japanese, I want Japanese people serving me.

    (4)
  • Helen S.

Place is only average. Nothing On the hibachi side was spectacular. Everything is seasoned the same way, so none of it was unique! I've had so much better at other hibachi style restaurants. The cook entertainers really were not that skilled either.

Food and service are seriously lacking. Way too much MSG I am allergic to the stuff lets just say that I was glowing red when I left. First experience was okay second was a disaster.

The environment is fun if you're looking for a lively lot. Which I didn't mind since I was out with my brother for a catching- up dinner. Although there was a wait for tables (couples, families, groups), we were immediately seated at the bar, first come first serve. The service is fairly prompt, they did check in on us regularly to make sure all was ok, and the waitress did not mind being 'flagged' as she was walking by. If she only knew what nigiri is.... The fish was all clearly fresh, we had a wide selection. But, if you're an avid sushi eater you will know, the fish temperature is supposed to be on the cooler side rather than room temp, so that was a huge downer The edamame was slightly undercooked. Soooo, I won't be going back any time soon. I could be convinced by a group of friends that really enjoy the place, the food was not sour after all. Too bad, thought I had a new Jap connection

Great Sushi, Great Service, Beautiful Decor - Sunset Roll was awesome!

  • Jessica J.

I can't believe the soup that was brought to me. It was not a broth...it was just water, with what seemed to be fried onions in it. As a result, the flavor was really lacking. It seemed like a bowl of hot water with a few onions. Not good. Then there was the salad. Iceberg with watery, and I mean watery, allegedly ginger dressing. Yuk. This was a horrible start. My roll was decent. Finally, the veggie yakisoba noodles was made with veggies that weren't fresh...brown spots were on the veggies. These spots were not made from the grill or the seasonings...just old veggies with brown spots. I hope to find better Japanese in Daytona.

Finally another sushi option in Port Orange! The decor inside is nothing to rave about but fitting for the area. The bar located upon entry outside of the dining area is a nice touch for when you order take out and get there a few minutes early...sake bomb anyone! Haven't dined in the hibachi section but there sushi rolls are rather creative without compromising flavor content. Two of my favorites are the Sunset Roll and the Pavilion Roll. Prices will not break the bank but if you arrive hungry and like to eat sushi as much as I do it will add up quick. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Overall I am a fan and will be back to try their hibachi.

I hadn't been here in awhile. No particular reason, I just like going for special occasions. Tonight I went for an end of the year pig-out! The sushi was just as good as I remember. I tried a couple of different rolls tonight, and I had the "Angry Dragon" roll and my husband had a Hip-Hop roll (it was a special roll for tonight). Wonderful, but was so full that when we ordered our usual "Dinner for Two", we ended up taking most of it home. The best value there if you like variety is the Dinner for Two. It's $46 and you get chicken, filet mignon, shrimp, scallops, and lobster. That's right, all of the meats, plus the usual fried rice, veggies, salad and soup. It gets very busy there, so I recommend getting there very early, or late. Fantastic service, too. I think we had the best hibachi chef tonight. He was entertaining and funny, but then got down to business. He seemed to know what he was doing and was experienced. If there was a down side, I really like the scallops there and they were a bit oversized and therefore had to be cooked longer. He did a great job with them, however a couple of them were just on the undercooked side. At least they weren't overcooked or rubbery. They usually have large scallops, but these were monstrous and the super large ones tend to be less flavorful and cumbersome to prepare. The shrimp were also huge, steak very tender, chicken perfect, tender, not dry at all. I wish I knew how to cook chicken as good. Lobster, excellent. I also was glad to see the same people working there that have been there awhile. It makes me feel like they care about quality when the same staff are there. Excellent service, drinks filled, super polite waitress (she's worked there, I believe, since it opened). Friendly host and bartender. Great guys, have seen them several times. Again, good to see familiar staff. I haven't been in there in awhile, and the host still remembered exactly where we like to sit. PERFECT! I hate to give it a good rating because it just makes it more crowded, but it also keeps them in business, and that is just fine with me : )

This place is amazing. Excellent food, service and ambience. You have also the option to be cooked in front of you which makes it very unique

hibachi seating, sushi bar, bar, regular dining tables. The chef spent extra time on our hibachi meal. The scallops were very good. They ran out of calamari steak. Service was very slow by the server around the hibachi grill. Great selection of sushi; had a terrific spicy "pink panther roll." plum wine was perfect with this meal. They had a nice selection of martinis at the bar; had a lychee martini. This Pavillion area in Port Orange is a fun place for an evening or afternoon of it; movie theaters and shopping in the same complex as the restaurants.

I have had dinner here several times and always enjoyed it which makes this evening's experience all the more disappointing. We ordered a bottle of our favorite wine and our waitress returned to tell us they were out of it. We ordered a substitute by the glass and went on to have dinner. Imagine our surprise when the bottle of wine was on our bill, along with the 4glasses. When brought to the attention of our waitress, she did not seem surprised, and either did the manager and while the charge was taken off the bill, it makes me wonder how many other times we did not closely check our bill after dinner and drinks and were charged incorrectly. If you dine at Takara, check your bill twice, i think I will be trying out the competition because the management here seemed way too unconcerned by a $29 error on the bill for me to want to continue to bring my business here.

I have been here multiple times since they opened and prefer it to Tekeya's in Ormond Beach. Takara brings back that intimate atmosphere Tekeya's lost when it moved to the larger location on Williamson. The food between the two is very similar and the sushi is amazing (though I only eat cooked). I've ordered and eaten the fish, chicken, shrimp, scallops, and steak off the habachi and have tried the angry dragon and the California rolls from the sushi menu (I know it's sad, but I just started eating sushi!). Everything I've had here is amazing. Dinner for two will run you over $50 and greatly depends on appetizers and what entree. If you both get steak, sushi appetizers, and desserts, you're looking something closer to $80. All in all it's a great place to go and eat; whether you are in a group or by yourself. Do not worry about portion size either. If you are eating on the hibachi side it is impossible to leave hungry!

Bar: long islands and double rum and cokes around 7-10$. Food very good. I had Filet Mignon and scallops. Sushi: The Reef Roll was amazing! Would give 5 stars but the wait on Saturday night was over an hour even with reservations at 8pm for party of 9. Salad and soup were just like anywhere else. The chef was great; gave each child a sword balloon at end of the night and a crown for the birthday boy out of balloons that looked like a dog!
